Philip James Scappatura III, 47, of Newtown died unexpectedly April 11. He was born January 31, 1968, in Port Chester, N.Y., and was the son of Patricia Mikula Scappatura and Philip Scappatura, Jr, of Newtown.

He graduated from Newtown High School in 1985 and went to Franklin Pierce University where he met Lisa Goulart, and soon after they were blessed with three wonderful boys. His children remember him as a kind, driven father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.

Mr Scappatura was a generous and dedicated man who loved his family more than anything. Kindness radiated from him, to all who knew him. He put his heart and soul into anything that he did. He was an accomplished contractor and carpenter, and will be remembered by the homes and work he created. He would often show his children his work throughout the greater area. He was an avid fisherman, and took pride in and shared with many his love of reptiles.

His parents; his children Philip “PJ” Scappatura IV, Justin Scappatura, and Trevor Scappatura, all of Woodbury; his sisters Gail Scappatura Mitchell, and her husband R. Scott Mitchell, and Jennifer Scappatura; and brother-in-law William Harrington survive Mr Scappatura, along with many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, and cousins.

Family and friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, from 5 to 8 pm, Monday, April 20. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Tuesday, April 21, at St Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to an education fund for his sons at http://pjsiiimemorialeducationfund.mydagsite.com/home.
