Daniel Bruce Monroe, 68, of Newtown, died peacefully at home after his battle with lung cancer, February 21, surrounded by his family. He was born March 1, 1946, in Sharon, Conn., and was the son of the late Edward John Monroe, and Dorothy Monroe Walker, who resides in Woodbury.

Mr Monroe graduated from Joel Barlow High School and served in the National Guard, Company “A” 242dEngrBn.

He was a realtor at William Raveis Real Estate, The Durkin Group, until he retired several years ago.

Once retired, Mr Monroe loved working outside in his yard. He maintained the grounds and the family pool — although never fond of the job, he did it for his kids and friends. He enjoyed planting Japanese maple saplings and admiring all his landscape plantings.

He was there for friends and family when in need. Mr Monroe loved his family, his children, nieces and nephews, all his friends — especially at VFW, and adored his dogs, the Patriots, and CSI.

His wife, Ellen Monroe; children Michael, Suzanne, Daniel Sean, James, and Daniel Monroe, and Gigi Monroe Allen; his brothers Barry Monroe and Edward Monroe; and sisters Lynne Mikulka and Gail Ambadjes survive Mr Monroe. His oldest brother, Brian Monroe, predeceased him.

A private family service has been held. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Saturday, February 28, from 2 to 5 pm. At Mr Monroe’s request, there will be no memorial service.

A special thanks to the compassion of Masonicare Hospice of Newtown.

In lieu of flowers, Mr Monroe asked that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org, or to the Guiding Eyes for the Blind, at www.guidingeyes.org.
