Catherine Spodnick
Catherine (Murphy) Spodnick of Trumbull died June 13, in Bridgeport Hospital. She was born in New Haven, daughter of the late Honorable John W. Murphy, mayor of New Haven, and Helen O'Connell Murphy.
In addition to her husband of 59 years, H. Lawrence Spodnick of Trumbull; her children, Kara Pansa and husband Greg of Newtown, T. Christopher Spodnick of Monroe, and Attorney Jonathan Spodnick of Trumbull; her grandchildren, Stephen Pansa and Jason Pansa of Newtown, Diane Spodnick and David Spodnick of Milford, and Lucas Voegeli of Guilford; and multiple nieces and nephews survive her.
Her sister, Mary Ellen Mininberg of New Haven, and her brother, John "Jack" Murphy of California, predeceased her.
MrsÃÂ SpodnickÃÂ graduated from St Mary's High School, New Haven, and Albertus Magnus College, New Haven, in 1952. She became an elementary school teacher and taught at Woolsey Elementary School in New Haven and then after marriage, continued teaching in Monroe Elementary School.
She then raised her three children and was active in Nichols School PTA and Trumbull High School PTA, Junior Chamber Blood Blank, St John Nepomucene Catholic War Veterans Post 125, and Slovak Alliance of Greater Bridgeport. She later worked as a bookkeeper at Skydel's Department Store in Bridgeport and then for many years as a bookkeeper for her son Jonathan's law office.
MrsÃÂ Spodnick loved going to the beach, watching boats, swimming, and vacationing in Falmouth Heights, Cape Cod. She was very proud of her Irish Heritage, and was also an avid reader, a flower gardener, and a fan of the New York Yankees. She was a loving mother, and a caring, kind, supportive, and compassionate friend to many. She will be missed by all her former coworkers, her friends, and her family, all of whom she loved very much.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Friday, June 16, from 4 to 7:30 pm, at the Cyril Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, June 17, at 9 am, from the funeral home and at 10 am in Our Lady of Grace Church, 497 Second Hill Lane, Stratford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Monsignor Martin Ryan. Interment will follow in St Michael's Cemetery, 2205 Stratford Avenue, Stratford.
