Jeffrey P. Smith

Jeffrey P. Smith, 70, of Fairfield, the loving husband of Carol MacKenzie Smith, died peacefully December 7. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Lillian and Harry Smith.

Mr Smith was a graduate of Rye Tech in Stamford and attended the Culinary Institute of America. Prior to his retirement, he was the owner of A Sign Depot in Newtown and The Deli Bake in New Canaan, which he owned with his father.

A well-known bird carver, Mr Smith won several first place ribbons over the years at the Wildfowl Carving Competition in Maryland.  Several articles have been written about Jeff’s carvings.

In addition to his wife, his two devoted daughters, Kyle Ann McCarthy, and her husband Christopher, and Kelli Lyn Smith, both of Fairfield; and his three cherished grandsons, Colin, Gavin, and Dylan, survive Mr Smith.  His sister, Gale Lorden, predeceased him.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday, December 11, at 10:30 am at St Anthony of Padua Church, 149 South Pine Creek Road, Fairfield.  Interment is private. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 10, from 5 to 8 pm, at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, in Fairfield Center. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Connecticut Audubon Society, 2325 Burr Street, Fairfield CT 06824.
