Betty Ann (Keane) Ecsedy, 83, of Newtown, beloved wife of Robert Norman Ecsedy, died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family and caregivers, November 7. Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Helena Blake Keane, and stepdaughter of Elizabeth Durga Keane.

The Ecsedys were married in 1957 and moved to Newtown, where they raised their family of seven children and resided for the last 57 years.

Mrs Ecsedy received her RN at St Vincent Nursing School at St Vincent’s Hospital, where she worked. She married, raised her family, and then returned to her career in nursing at Newtown High School and Danbury Hospital’s Emergency Room and Utilization departments. After retiring from nursing, Mrs Ecsedy was co-owner and employee of the family business, Bobbex, Inc.

She was a devoted parishioner of St Rose of Lima Church in Newtown for 57 years. She enjoyed reading, walking daily with friends and family, whistling and humming to music, and watching the NY Giants and Huskies’ Women’s Basketball.

Mrs Ecsedy was a kind, generous, and fun-loving spirit who always opened her home and heart to family, friends, neighbors, and business associates. She especially loved celebrating holidays, special occasions, and family milestones, and would bring all together in the Ecsedy home in Newtown.

In addition to her husband, her seven loving children and spouses, Susan and Brian McCall of Fairfield, Judi Ecsedy and Paul Perry of Milford, Thomas and Michelle Ecsedy of Woodbury, Christopher and Donna Ecsedy of Mansfield Center, Gregory and Kelly Ecsedy of Southbury, Eileen and Thomas Robertson of North Billerica, Mass., and Jeffery Ecsedy and Lorelei Mucci of Newton, Mass.; 14 beloved grandchildren, Jennifer and Kirsten Carr, Tim McCall, Mikayla Perry, Aiden Robertson, Stephen, Kelly, Daniel, Colleen, Caitlin, Kevin, Ethan, Benjamin, and Kayleigh Ecsedy; and her brother-in-law Peter Pizaretz, and his wife Pat, survive Mrs Ecsedy. Her brother Robert Keane, her sister Doris Keane Pizaretz, and in-laws Barbara Keane and Margret Harrison predeceased her.

Calling hours will be at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, from 4 to 7 pm, Tuesday, November 11.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, November 12, at 10:30 am, at St Rose of Lima Church in Newtown. Interment will follow at Newtown Village Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America at www.alz.org.
