Victor George Kotiadis

Victor George Kotiadis, 89, of New Holland, Penn., formerly of Ossining, Yonkers, and Riverdale, N.Y., and Trumbull, Conn., died unexpectedly October 27 at Lancaster (Penn.) General Hospital. He celebrated 46 years of marriage to Jeanne T. Habbick Kotiadis on September 3. Born in New York City, September 3, 1925, he was a son of George and Mary Pirounakis Kotiadis.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Victoria Fosco, and her husband Chris, of Newtown; a son, George V. Kotiadis, and his wife Cathy, of Wallkill, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and a sister, Olympia Zappas, and her husband Andrew. Two brothers, James and William; and a sister, Anne Fortosis, predeceased Mr Kotiadis.

He enlisted and was an airplane mechanic in the Air Force during World War II.

Mr Kotiadis was a longtime resident of Connecticut before moving to Pennsylvania in 2004.

Before his retirement he was a supervisor in the Motor Vehicle and Equipment Repair Division at the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. He had also worked as an auto mechanic and a financial investor.

Mr Kotiadis did lobbying work in Albany and the New York State Capitol, speaking to state senators and assemblymen against the decriminalization of marijuana. His research material was obtained at The New York Academy of Medicine, 103rd Street and Fifth Avenue, New York City. He was concerned about the United States government’s deficit spending and submitted articles to various newspapers. Another serious area of concern for Mr Kotiadis was drunk driving, especially on the highways. He testified in Connecticut’s Capitol, Hartford, concerning highway deaths as a result of drunk driving. He also was involved in New York City's Consolidated Edison Co., to start an electric vehicle program and venture.

Funeral services will take place Thursday, October 30, at 10:30 am, in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Interment with full military honors will follow in Mt Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 29, from 4 to 8 pm.
