Richard M. Rukan, 84, of Fairfield died October 6 at Bridgeport Hospital. He was the husband of the late Olga (Szabo) Rukan. He was born in Bridgeport to Agnes (Pistey) and Michael Rukan.

Survivors include two beloved daughters, Holly Kearns, and her husband Bruce, of Newtown and Lori Rukan of Fairfield; one brother, Ronald Rukan, and his wife Jackie, of Summerville, S.C.; three grandchildren, Jessica Kearns, Aileen Kearns Larson, and her husband Isaiah, and Peter Kearns; a beloved aunt; and one nephew. His parents and his sister, Rita Rukan, predeceased him.

Mr Rukan served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean War. He had attended Tulane University in New Orleans. Mr. Rukan had been employed with Casco Products for more than 45 years, in the data processing and payroll departments.

He was a devoted and very generous father and grandfather. He thoroughly enjoyed his place of honor sitting at the head of the table at family occasions. In recent years, he made a habit of purchasing and giving his beloved children and grandchildren special gifts, as mementos of his affection.

Mr Rukan was an avid tennis player, and also enjoyed skiing and golf. He had a keen interest in American history. Mr Rukan had been a member of Fidelity St John Lodge #3 in Fairfield.

Friends are invited to call at Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford, Thursday, October 9, from 5 to 8 pm, and to attend the funeral there, Friday, October 10, at 10:30 am. Interment will follow with military honors at Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield.
