Robert L. Keller, Sr, 84, of Danbury, died peacefully October 6, surrounded by his family. He was born March 31, 1930, in Port Chester, N.Y., and was the son of the late Edith "Sophie" Keller and Stanley F. Keller, Sr. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Dorothy F. (Lowden) Keller.

Besides his wife, his three children, Suzanne (Keller), and her husband Al J. Gomes, and his grandchildren, Jordan E. Gomes and Lucas J. Gomes of Sandy Hook, Robert L. Keller, Jr, and Diane Disher and her family, of Danbury, and Cheryl A. (Keller), and her husband Robert S. Walker, and his grandson, Justin R. Vidal of Brookfield; his brothers, Stanley, and his wife Priscilla, and Kenneth Keller; two cousins, several nieces, and a nephew survive Mr Keller.

He grew up in Port Chester and Greenwich. He was a member of the Port Chester Volunteer Fire Department for many of his younger years. Mr Keller served in the Korean War with the United States Navy, aboard the USS Massey, for four years. He was a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 72, based at Calf Pasture Beach, Norwalk. He was very proud to have served his country in the Navy, and also for volunteering with the USCGA. He inspected many boats in the area, and was involved in the Norwalk Oyster Festival and the Norwalk Boat Show, representing Flotilla 72.

Mr Keller had several jobs during his life, including an auto mechanic in Greenwich, Danbury, and New Milford. He was a licensed MLS broker in Connecticut, and sold many homes in the area, meeting many people along the way and fostering friendships he truly cherished. He last worked for Duracell in Bethel.

He was the ultimate handyman, helping anyone and everyone. He most enjoyed being husband, dad, and granddad. He was instrumental in helping each of his children build their homes, something he enjoyed immensely. He was an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan.

Mr Keller was lucky enough to have gone on many vacations, from Germany, Italy, and Austria with his wife and son, to Florida, Norfolk Naval Base, where he saw the Blue Angels, to Maine, Cape Cod, and Boston, camping all over the Northeast and many other places with his family members. He also visited Chapel Hill, N.C., when his daughter lived there. In recent years, he loved to go “running the roads” and stopping for “a bite to eat.”

Although Bob had no pets of his own, he loved his children’s dogs.

The family will receive friends at the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division Street, Danbury, Friday, October 10, from 3 to 6 pm.

The family would like to thank Dr Fred Kayal for his unwavering care throughout Mr Keller’s life, and the staff and residents of Filosa’s Nursing Home, for making his last months and final days comfortable. Finally, a special thank you to all of the friends who have touched his life and that of the family over the past years. Friends and family will miss him, more than words can express: “Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away.”
