Proposed Development Will Negatively Affect Entire Town
To the Editor:
Before our various town commissions is a proposal to build retail/office space and 224 residential rental units at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Walnut Tree Hill Road known as Hunters Ridge. A complex of this size adds a lot of cars (proposed parking for more than 600 cars) and a lot of people in a very small area. I live off of Walnut Tree Hill Road and I am opposed to this project not only for the safety issues it poses and for the negative affect it will have on our immediate neighborhood, but also for how it will affect our entire town.
It will affect anyone who travels on Church Hill Road or uses the Exit 10 ramps in either direction; remember, they are allowing for more than 600 cars. It will negatively impact our emergency responders, our schools, our environment, and our quality of life. I've heard Newtown described as "idyllic" and "quintessential New England" and while I understand that a town must progress, I feel approval of this development is not the responsible way to do that. I urge the members of councils making the decisions on this project on our behalf to stand with us in opposition and make the responsible choice for the safety and well-being of fellow residents; residents that do not include the current owner of the subject property who lives in Norwalk or the developer who lives in Trumbull.
