Field Hockey Team Starts Season With 6-2 Triumph
It was a goal-scoring barrage for Newtown High School's field hockey team in its season opener.
The Nighthawks, after surrendering the first cage-finder of the contest, got six of the next seven en route to a 6-2 triumph over visiting Simsbury, at Treadwell Park, on September 11.
Kat Trammel scored Newtown's first two goals. Ali Kelleher, Katie Goyda, Katie Dirga, and Libby Poseno also tallied.
Defender Meghan O'Rourke was dominant in the back as well as the midfield, limiting Simsbury's chances.
The Nighthawks, following a September 13 game against Watertown (Blue & Gold Stadium at 5:30 pm), will host Masuk of Monroe on Monday, September 17, in another 5:30 pm contest at Blue & Gold.
