Ben's Bells Newtown Is Taking Bell Making To Beardsley Zoo
BRIDGEPORT — Ben’s Bells Newtown will be at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo on Sunday, August 3, from 10 am until 3 pm.
There will be a number of special events that day including a bell making workshop, bead sculpting, and Kindness Coins being handed out.
The mission of Ben’s Bells is to inspire, educate and motivate people to realize the impact of intentional kindness. The pieces that come together to form each bell are crafted by volunteers. By the time a Ben’s Bell is finished, at least ten people have participated in its creation.
Bells are hung randomly for people to find and take home as a reminder to practice intentional kindness.
The Bell Making workshop will run from 9:30 to 11:30 am in the Carousel House. Participants will get a special welcome from guest speaker Jeanette Mare, the executive director of Ben’s Bells and the mother of the program’s late namesake.
Attendees will then have time to sculpt and glaze kindness beads.
This program is limited to 250 people, and registration is required by July 28. All those who register will be admitted to the zoo on the day of the event for only $5.
Registration can be done online. One lucky registrant will win a year long Zoo Membership.
Parents must accompany children during the Bell Making Workshop event.
In addition, bead sculpting — creating the beads and items that will eventually be used to create a Ben’s Bell — will be ongoing in the zoo’s pavilion from 10 am until 3 pm. No registration is required.
Throughout the day zoo staff members will be handing out Kindness Coins to kids who are spotted acting kindly.
In addition, all zoo visitors should keep an eye out for Ben’s Bells that will be hung all over the zoo. Find one and it’s yours to keep as a reminder to be kind.
Regular zoo admission is $14 for adults, $10 ages 3-11 and senior citizens, and free for ages 2 and under and Connecticut Zoological Society members. The zoo is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm.
The zoo is at 1875 Noble Avenue in Bridgeport. Call 203-394-6565 or visit BeardsleyZoo.org for additional information.
