Elizabeth Grace Whittle
Elizabeth Grace Whittle, 89, of Southbury died March 14 at St Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. She was the widow of Donald G. Whittle, Sr. She was born May 20, 1924, in Shelton, and was a daughter of Ann Elizabeth (Anderson) and John Henry Cotter. She was a longtime resident of Newtown before moving to Milford, and later to Southbury, 20 years ago.
She leaves her four children, John “Jack” Whittle, and his wife Jennifer Mesaric, of Sandy Hook, Frances Pease, and her husband Alan, of Durham, Jean Dowling, and her husband Timothy, of Kennebunk, Maine, and Donald G. Whittle of Southbury; her devoted sister, Ann Cotter, with whom she lived; seven grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters.
Mrs Whittle was a graduate of the Hospital of St Raphael’s School of Nursing. She worked at Fairfield Hills in Newtown for more than 25 years and later specialized in geriatric nursing. She was an active member of the Oxford Senior Center and an avid fan of UConn women’s basketball. Mrs Whittle was also accomplished in knitting, sewing, and chair caning.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, March 19, at 10 am, in Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury. Burial will follow in St Rose Cemetery, Newtown. Calling hours are Tuesday, March 18, from 5 to 8 pm, in the daily chapel of Sacred Heart Church.
