To the Editor:
I am writing to recommend candidate George Ferguson to the Legislative Council, District 1 ⦠because of his intelligence, knowledge, and track record. Even before George Ferguson became a Conservation Commissioner, he advised the Open Space Task Force on strategies for securing open space. George will be the first to tell you that âSuccess has many fathers and failure is an orphan.â But you should know that I was influenced by Georgeâs advice to open the dialogue that led to Newtownâs securing the development rights on Ferris Farm. Now, the last operating dairy farm in Fairfield County will always remain a thing of beauty for all to enjoy.
Our commission has used his strategies to secure open space gifts, including the 12 acres of open space the DeGraff Family gifted on Pond Brook Road. That property is next to the Pond Brook Purchase, which was a bargain-sale transaction, negotiated by George and others, creating a new passive recreation area for Newtown residents. Iâve learned a great deal working with George. He is well informed. He reads and attends conferences to keep in the know. He has been active in getting grants for the town. Iâve worked with George on several environmental projects, including maintaining Alâs Trail, setting up booths at Duck Day and Earth Day, creating and delivering a presentation, âWhatâs an Aquifer?â to all third and fourth grade Newtown students.
There are few running for Council with this kind of positive Newtown track record, so if you are in District 1, or know somebody that is, please vote, or advise someone to vote, for George.
We need Georgeâs expertise to face the impending challenges ahead.
Sincerely,
