Time To Step Up
To the Editor:Newtown Bee), or we can step up and let our votes be counted.
Our country was once a colony under a country requiring taxes to pay for their soldiers upkeep here. People living at that time stepped up and said "No"; sometimes they died for their beliefs. They eventually earned for us the right to say how much local upkeep monies are needed and should or should not be appropriated - the right to vote in a democratic nation.
Now, Newtown voters can decide to act. We can let 17 percent continue to decide how our money is spent, we can hand over our rights and allow elected town leaders decide because voting is a "burden" (see page one of the April 17
