Creating Icons; A Children’s Workshop

RIDGEFIELD — Using the current exhibition “Faith: The Impact of Judeo-Christian Religion on Art at the Millennium” for inspiration, Greenwich artist Ellen Colcord will lead children in a workshop on the exploration and creation of contemporary icons at the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art. Focusing on a theme, idea or nature as opposed to a person, a small wooden triptych will be provided as a frame to which each child will apply individual collage and painted work.

The workshop will be held on Saturday, February 12, from 10 am to noon. It is designed for children ages seven to ten.

The course is limited to 12 participants and reservations are required. The workshop is $15 per person.

Ms Colcord’s work as a painter embodies a technique  often incorporating gold leaf, filigree engraving and the unique layering of color over a red clay base.

The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art is at 258 Main Street in Ridgefield. For directions and reservations, call the museum at 203/438-4519.
