Walter “Walt” John Castings, 64, of Woodbury, died December 9, at St Mary’s Hospital, Waterbury, with his loving wife Katie Coad by his side. He was born in Pawtucket, R.I., November 29, 1949, and was the son of the late Donald and Norma (Ware) Castings. 

Mr Castings served in Vietnam and was a highly decorated United States Marine.  He was a member of the VFW Post 308 in Newtown.

Walt worked for Texaco/Citgo for 40 years in Woodbury.  His smile touched many people.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children, Walter Castings, Jr, of Woodbury and Rachel Montessi, and her husband Tony, of Roxbury; his stepdaughter, Melanie Krauss; his sister, Donna Colella, and her husband Michael; his brother, James Castings, and his wife Jeannie; a granddaughter, Hailey Montessi; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brother Robert and his nephew Austin.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, December 28, at 10 am, at North Congregational Church, 11 Main Street North, in Woodbury. Immediate family and close friends are also welcome to attend a military service that will take place at the VFW Post 308, Tinkerfield Road in Newtown, Saturday, January 4, at 1 pm.
