Marjorie E. “Betty” Guarino, 76, of Sandy Hook died November 22 at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of Michael R. Guarino. She was born in Bridgeport, March 5, 1937, a daughter of Marjorie (Elliott) and H. Horton Saunders.

She moved to Sandy Hook with her family as a child. She attended Newtown schools and graduated from Newtown High School, Class of 1955. Mrs Guarino also was a graduate of the University of Bridgeport, with a degree in art.

She was a communicant of St Rose of Lima Church.

Mrs Guarino was a talented rug hooker, and enjoyed the outdoors, especially canoeing with her daughter and spending time with family and friends. She was an avid New England Patriots fan.

In addition to her husband, a daughter, Leslie E. Rich of Sandy Hook, and a grandson, Danny McLoughlin of Sandy Hook, survive Mrs Guarino. Two sons, Daniel Rich and Joseph Rich predeceased her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Rose of Lima Church Tuesday, November 26, at 10 am. Private interment will be in Cornwall Cemetery, Cornwall, Conn. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Monday, November 25, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm.
