Richard Oberg
Richard Thomas Oberg, 82, of Brookfield died peacefully September 8. He was born March 6, 1936, in Bridgeport. He attended Summerfield Elementary and Middle School as well as Fairfield Prep for high school.
Mr Oberg lived in Newtown for many years until moving to Brookfield in 2008. He owned Oberg’s Texaco Service Station from 1954 until 1988, and he was a contributor to the Town of Newtown for 50 years.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr Oberg was a member of Newtown Fish and Game, Hattertown Rod and Gun, and Turkey Roost Rod and Gun, and he was a member of Hiram 18 Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years. He was also a member of Newtown United Methodist Church.
His two sons, Carl Oberg of New Milford and Randall Oberg of Bantam; four grandchildren, Kevin Oberg of New Milford, Katie Oberg Zuleg of New Milford, and Christopher and Andrew Oberg, both of Southbury; and two great-grandchildren survive him.
Mr Oberg was married for 57 years to Joan Reilly Oberg, who predeceased him in 2013. His grandson, Jason Oberg, also predeceased him.
His loved ones say he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will truly be missed.
Services will take place Saturday, September 29, at 11 am, at the United Methodist Church, 92 Church Hill Road, Sandy Hook.
