Julie & Joshua Stern

Julie Harris and Joshua Stern were married March 27, 2010, in the historic Louisiana State Museum The Cabildo, on Jackson Square in New Orleans. The Reverend Jim VanderWeele, a Unitarian minister, officiated. The bride is the daughter of Justine and Gordon Harris of McClean, Va. The bridegroom is the son of Karen and Michael Stern of Newtown.

Hannah Harris, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Will Rack was best man.

Bridesmaids were Katie Harris, sister of the bride; Rachel Stern, sister of the groom; Mary Beth Harris, sister-in-law of the bride; Kelly Carmichael, a friend of the bride; and Sarah Sherblom, a friend of the groom. Groomsmen were Joshua Marcuse, Daniel Preysman, and Ryan Jones, friends of the groom; Matthew Harris, brother of the bride; and Jose Gonzales, a friend of the bride. The flower girl and ring bearer were Claire Harris and Joseph Johnson, niece and nephew of the bride.

A reception followed the ceremony in the Orleans Ballroom of The Bourbon Orleans Hotel. A traditional New Orleans celebration included an appearance by the New Orleans-based Treme Brass Band, who led a second line parade.

Julie Stern graduated from Marksville High School in Marksville, La. She graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and psychology. She graduated from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., with a master’s degree in international education. She is the public policy director at Cesar Chaves Public Charter School for Public Policy in Washington, D.C.

Joshua Stern graduated from Newtown High School. He graduated from Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H., with a bachelor’s degree in government and geography, and later from Cornell Law School, Ithaca, N.Y., with a Juris Doctor degree. He is an associate in the Washington, D.C., office of the New York law firm Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton.

After a honeymoon in French Polynesia, the couple is living in Arlington, Va.
