Thomas H. Duffy

Thomas H. Duffy, 89, of Branford, died September 14, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was born in Fall River, Mass., March 23, 1922, and was the son of Thomas H. and Anna Connelly Duffy. He was the beloved husband to the late Mary Regan Duffy.

His daughters and their husbands, Patricia and Ron Zingoni and Kathleen and Stephen Papp, all of Newtown, Nancy and Michael Bailie of Columbia, S.C., Maribeth and Marty Gibbons of Marlton, N.J., Peggy and Kevin McCulloch of Durango, Colo., Maureen and Steven Dwyer of Naugatuck, and Eileen Duffy and David Beem of Easton, 20 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren survive Mr Duffy. He was predeceased by his twin brother, the Reverend Edward C. Duffy.

He was a US Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a lieutenant on board the USS Tripoli. He received the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Ribbon.

After the war, he graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He began his career as an engineer with Avco-Lycoming in Stratford, and became the district sales manager for Hewlett-Packard for 35 years, retiring in 1986.

Mr Duffy was an avid sailor, sailing the waters of Long Island Sound, Narragansett Sound, and many trips to Block Island.

He was formerly of Southport, where he raised his family, and was an active parishioner of St Luke Church in Westport. After moving to Branford, he became the head usher at the 10:30 am Mass at St Mary Church. He was also the treasurer for the Branford Food Council and was a volunteer driver for the Branford Medical Transport.

Friends may call Tuesday, September 17, from 4 to 8 pm, at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, and are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday, September 18, at 10:30 am, in St Mary Church, 731 Main Street, Branford. Burial will be in St Patrick Cemetery, Fall River, Mass., on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Branford Food Council, 30 Harrison Avenue, Branford CT 06405, or to St Mary Church, 731 Main Street, Branford CT 06405.
