Registration Open For Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light The Night Walk
Registration Open For Leukemia & Lymphoma Societyâs Light The Night Walk
Registration is open to join the Leukemia & Lymphoma Societyâs (LLS) Light The Night Walk, Saturday, September 24, at Newtown Youth Academy, Fairfield Hills Campus, to build awareness for the more than 913,000 people in the United States living with a blood cancer.
Light The Night, LLSâs annual fundraising walk held in communities throughout the country, features teams of co-workers, families, and friends walking together in twilight holding illuminated balloons â white for survivors, red for supporters, and gold to remember those who have died. The walk, which commemorates lives touched by blood cancers, is a celebration, with music, refreshments, and family activities. Festivities will begin at 5 pm.
âLight The Night is the nationâs opportunity to pay tribute to lives touched by blood cancer,â said Jeannie Montano, executive director. âWe are grateful to all of our participants for supporting this lifesaving program. The funds raised help the society support leading-edge research and provide much-needed patient services.â
Last year, participants in Light The Night Walk raised more than $39 million, nationwide.
For more information or to register for a local walk, contact the Connecticut chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at 203-665-1400 or visit www.lightthenight.org.
Every walker who raises $100 or more will become a Champion For Cures and will be recognized on the night of the walk with a Light The Night T-shirt; an illuminated Light The Night balloon in red, white, or gold; and a wristband which entitles the wearer to food and refreshments.
Participants who raise money online receive gas cards that can be redeemed at most major gasoline providers. Each fundraising participant who raises $250 to $499 will receive a $15 gas card, or for every $500 the fundraisers raise online they will get a gas card worth $50. The promotion applies to funds raised for Light The Night Walk, online only, in the months of July and August only.
