Frank E. Velky

Frank E. Velky, 102, of Bridgeport, died July 27, at Connecticut Hospice. Mr Velky was born in Bridgeport to Julia (Pekar) and MartinVelky.

He was a founding member of the Cedarhurst Association on Lake Zoar in Newtown.

Mr Velky had earned the nickname “Rubber Legs” for his dancing skills. He gave up a vaudeville career with Buddy Ebsen’s troupe to marry Mildred “Minnie” Pittam Velky.

He was a member of the Connecticut National Air Guard. An avid flier, he was instrumental in the formation of local flying clubs. Frank had worked at Chance-Vought, Singer, and Norden Systems before retiring.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Dorothy Velky; a brother-in-law, George Fogarty; and several nieces and nephews.

His wife; a sister, Helen, and three brothers, Martin, George, and Alois, predeceased him.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral Wednesday, July 31, at 9:45 am, at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford, and at 10:30 am at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1950 Barnum Avenue, Stratford, with a Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Reverend Andrew G. Marus. Interment will follow at St Michael Cemetery, 2205 Stratford Avenue, Stratford. Friends may call Tuesday, July 30, from 5 to 8 pm.
