Ines Freuler, 85, of Stamford, forever known to her family as “Schatzie,” died July 24, a short month after her birthday. Born in Bern, Switzerland, June 15, 1928, to Olga Meyer and Emil Pauli, she immigrated to New York on the Queen Elizabeth in 1950. She always told her family how excited she was to see the Statue of Liberty for the first time.

Her daughters Barbara Freuler-Chimileski, and husband Ken, of Sandy Hook and  Esther Freuler-Hartig, and husband Gary, of Los Osos, Calif., and seven grandchildren survive Mrs Freuler. Her brothers Rene Pauli, a renowned San Francisco photographer, and Max Pauli of Switzerland predeceased her.

Ever proud of her Swiss heritage, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law, and was truly the light of her family’s life.

During her life, she was a manager in the retail business, a business broker, and a dog and house sitter in her retirement years.

She loved art, colors, decorating, gardening, cooking for her family, and counseling family in all matters with her wisdom.

A memorial service for friends and family will take place at the Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street, Newtown, Saturday, August 3, at 11 am. A private ceremony will follow at Newtown Village Cemetery.
