DAWS To Hold Fundraiser For Animals

DANBURY — The Danbury Animal Welfare Society, Inc. (DAWS) will hold its 16th annual “Walk for Animals” on Sunday, October 2. The raindate is  Sunday, October 9.

Proceeds from the two-mile walk will directly benefit this non-profit organization whose mission is to care for neglected, abused, stray and abandoned animals in the greater Danbury area. Originating at Rogers Park of South Street in Danbury, hundreds of walkers and their dogs are expected to participate in this year’s event.

This year, in addition to walking as individuals, people can walk as teams. A minimum of five individuals are required and individual tack members are required to raise a minimum of $100 each.

Prizes will be awarded for the individuals and Packs raising the largest sums of money. Individual prizes include an iPod, DVD player, T-shirts and key rings. The winning Pack will receive a pizza party and trophy.

For the cat lovers in the group, the Walk for Animals committee will offer a “Feline Furr-tography” contest where cat photos can be entered in a variety of categories. Contest forms and details are available online.

Walk participants can bring along their dogs, meet and apply to adopt DAWS dogs, view pictures of DAWS cats for adoption, and the dog participates can participate in fun contests such as Best Tail Wagger and Best Trick. Throughout the event, there will be activities, dog training demonstrations and information tables from event sponsors specializing in dog and cat products and services.

Entry into the walk is free, however, participants are asked to solicit pledges in advance of the walk to support DAWS services.

DAWS has been serving the greater Danbury area since 1974 by caring for abused, neglected and stray animals. It is a non-profit organization that receives assistance and financial support through volunteer and community donations.
