Firefighters and family members answered the call to help unload trees on November 29 after a truckload of holiday trees arrived for the Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue benefit tree sale.

The annual activity, this year chaired by company members Michael Burton and his daughter Kelly, will extend daily from 6 to 9 pm Monday through Friday (and by chance), and 9 am to 9 pm on weekends, through the holiday season — or until all the trees are gone.

Justin Birtwell, his son Jonah, along with cousins Hayden and Ethan Bau, were the very first buyers standing by as holiday trees arrived at the fire company's main station Friday afternoon.

Fresh-cut trees will be available for sale at the station while supplies last. Firefighters are also selling wreaths, pine roping and cemetery boxes. Tree bags — to make clean-up easier after Christmas — are also available for purchase.
