For the afternoon of Wednesday, June 22, The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) has invited Christopher Magadini to demonstrate painting a landscape in oil.

The presentation will take place at 1:30 pm, in the lower gathering room of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole).

The public is invited to observe this talented artist in the process of creating a painting. Admission is free.

Mr Magadini's style could be called Contemporary Impressionism although the pastoral quality of his work recalls the naturalism of 19th Century American landscape painting. An incredible technician, in all of his oils the artist takes full advantage of the medium's wonderful qualities. No matter the size, the completed works exhibit a rich painterly surface enhanced by masterful brushwork.

"For me, painting is not simply the replication of what the eye sees," said the artist. "It is the creation of an image that embodies my thoughts and feelings. These, I think, are fairly universal, and I seek to communicate and connect with viewers on that level."

In recent years, Mr Magadini has become known as a plein air painter. His growing popularity has brought avid collectors to galleries where his work has been exhibited worldwide.

Christopher Magadini was born in Great Barrington, Mass., in 1946, and raised in Palm Springs, Calif., Los Angeles, and Phoenix, Ariz.

After graduating in 1970b from The Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, Mr Magadini pursued commercial illustration in Stockholm, Sweden.

He has taught at Marymount College in Tarrytown, N.Y., and has been a guest lecturer at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. He lives in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, and summers in the Adirondacks.
