Devoted To Danbury Youth Wrestling League
Andrew Levitt, 65, of Danbury, died at his residence on November 23. He was born July 15, 1940, in New York City, the son of Albert and Miriam (Harlib) Levitt.
Andrew Levitt will be sadly missed by his devoted wife of 22 years, Janet; as well as daughters, Kimberly Levitt Bordoy and husband, Gabriel Bordoy, of Newtown and Susan of Danbury; sons, Benjamin of Orlando and Samuel of Boston; and grandson, Gabriel Andrew Bordoy of Newtown.
Mr Levitt graduated from White Plains High School in 1958 and from Syracuse University in 1962. Serving in the armed forces for six years, he began his career as a stamp dealer for the Robert E. Siegel Company of New York City. In 1970, he moved to Danbury where he was president of Sotheby Park Bernet Stamp Company and was featured by Life magazine as selling the worldâs most rare stamp, the one-cent British Guiana. For the next 35 years, he ran Andrew Levitt Philatelic Consultants as well as founding Nutmeg Stamp Sales Inc, an auction house in 1998.
In his recent years, Mr Levitt devoted much of his time to the high school and youth wrestling programs in Danbury. In 1988, he was instrumental in organizing the Danbury Youth Wrestling League, serving as an officer or board member ever since. Mr Levittâs passion for the sport of wrestling culminated in April 2005 when he was inducted into The National Wrestling Hall of Fame and honored with the Medal of Courage Award.
A memorial service was held November 28 at Ridgewood Country Club, Danbury.
