Newtown Police officers will be participating in a special event this week at Pizza Palace Restaurant.

On Wednesday, July 17, from 4 to 10 pm, uniformed members of the department will be waiting on tables at the restaurant. All tips left for the police officers during those hours will be given to Special Olympics of Connecticut (SOCT).

According to Dila Fonda, co-owner of the restaurant at 65 Church Hill Road, staff members will be donating their time to the event. In addition, she says, the restaurant will donate 15 percent of its proceeds from the six-hour window to SOCT. The non-profit charitable organization is dedicated to providing year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

For entertainment, local magician Bryan Lizotte will also be donating his time on Wednesday. Mr Lizotte will be doing magic tricks and balloon sculpture.

For additional information contact Pizza Palace at 203-426-6114, or Sharon Pelkey at Special Olympics Connecticut Northwest Region at 860-484-9283.

Officers with Garner CI will host a Tip-A-Cop event to benefit Special Olympics Connecticut on April 15 at Buffalo Wild Wings in Danbury. In addition, law enforcement officers are already looking toward June, when up to 1,500 officers and Special Olympics athletes will participate in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for SOCT.
