DUI Arrest

Police said they responded to a report of a possibly intoxicated motorist in Sandy Hook which they received at about 11:34 pm on December 18.

Police said they spotted motorist Raymond Gomez, 45, of Monroe make a motor vehicle violation on Grays Plain Road, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police then charged Gomez with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

After processing, Gomez was released on $50 bail for a January 4 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Mailbox Missing

Sometime after 6 pm on December 11, someone stole a curbside residential mailbox from the property at 114 Hanover Road, police report. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the theft to contact investigating Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

South Main Street

Motorist Gary Hanson, 65, of 26 Huntingtown Road was driving a 2005 Nissan sedan northward near 123 South Main Street about 9:30 am December 13, when the left-front wheel of the vehicle fell off, causing the auto to travel off the right side of the road, police said.

Hanson was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Honda Off Road

Motorist Charles Brooks, 20, of 7 Stone Gate Drive, who was driving a 2002 Honda sedan southward on Lakeview Terrace about 12:30 am December 18, went off the road’s northbound shoulder and into a wooded area near 18 Lakeview Terrace, according to police.

Neither Brooks, nor two passengers, were injured, police said. Brooks received an infraction for making a restricted turn, according to police.

Rear-Ender

About 9:15 am on December 17, motorist Kevin Hadden, 44, of Monroe, who was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi coupe westward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Suzie Drive, stopped for traffic conditions and was hit from behind by westbound motorist Richard Rau, 82, of 17 Longview Heights Road, who was driving a 2002 Subaru station wagon, police said.

Hadden was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.

Rau received an infraction for following too closely, according to police. Hadden received an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle, police said.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle accident occurred on South Main Street near Sand Hill Plaza about 8:30 am December 16. All three vehicles were traveling northward at the time of the incident.

Motorist Jay McDougall, 38, of 3 Jacobs Lane, who was driving a 2010 Lexus sedan, slowed his vehicle, as did motorist Terri Scinto, 46, of 37 High Rock Road, who was driving a 2001 Chrysler station wagon behind the Lexus, police said.

Motorist Janice DiVasto, 48, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2003 Toyota station wagon, then struck the rear end of the Chrysler, pushing the Chrysler into the rear end of the Lexus, police said.

There were no injuries. DiVasto received an infraction for following too closely, police said.

Sandy Hook Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Toddy Hill Road, near its intersection with Berkshire Road, about 3:15 pm December 11.

The accident involved motorist Alfons Krivickas, 18, of Seymour, who was driving a 1997 Jeep Cherokee SUV, and motorist Gregory Gallagher, 32, of Norwell, Mass., who was driving a 2008 Audi A-6 sedan, police said.

In the incident, the Jeep struck the rear end of the Audi, according to police. There were no injuries. Krivickas received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Buick Vs Chevrolet

At about 12:18 pm on December 14, motorist Kathleen Moseman, 36, of 1 Clearview Drive was driving a 2007 Chevrolet station wagon eastward on Church Hill Road, when motorist Margaret Parsons, 83, of 12 Stone Fence Lane, who was driving a 1999 Buick sedan, was attempting to exit a commercial driveway at 19 Church Hill Road, according to police.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Parsons for failure to grant the right of way.

Boggs Hill Accident

Motorist Marc DeLorenzo, 36, of 147 Boggs Hill Road was driving a 1993 Honda sedan northward on Boggs Hill Road about 7 am December 18 and then went off the road near that street’s intersection with Willow Brook Lane, police said.

DeLorenzo was not injured. Police said they issued DeLorenzo an infraction for making an improper turn and for failure to wear a seatbelt.

Drug Charge

State police said that at about 12:05 am on December 18, they stopped motorist Ian Cooper, 20, of 12 Willow Brook Lane on eastbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 10, because Cooper was speeding.

State police said that an investigation turned up a substance in Cooper’s possession which apparently was a piece of crack cocaine.

Cooper was charged with possession of a controlled substance/narcotics and also with driving with a suspended license, according to state police. Cooper was scheduled for a January 10 arraignment in court on the charges, state police said.

Highway Accident

State police said motorist Francine Wertz, 24, of 7 Round Hill Road was driving a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder SUV on the Exit 10 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84 at about 8 am on December 16, when the vehicle spun out and then struck the metal-beam gurdrailing on the ramp’s median divider.

Wertz was not injured. State police said they verbally warned Wertz for making an unsafe movement.

Echo Valley Road

Sometime between 6 and 10 pm on December 11, someone cut two window screens at a home on Echo Valley Road, near that street’s four-way intersection with Tamarack Road and Concord Ridge Road, police report.

No entry was made into the house. A Christmas wreath, however, was stolen from a garage door there. Police Officer John McCluskey is investigating.

Electronic Device

Police report that sometime between 7 and 9 pm on December 17, a person lost a black and silver Apple-brand iPod Touch personal electronic device.

The person may have lost the device at Figs Wood-Fired Bistro, a restaurant at 105 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the device’s whereabouts to contact them at the police station.

Larceny

Police said they went to the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street about 6:40 pm on December 20 to investigate a report of a theft.

After investigating, police said they charged Wendy Cole, 53, of 31 Hanover Road with sixth-degree larceny for the alleged theft of unspecified items. After processing, police released Cole on a written promise to appear in court on January 4.

Sandy Hook Accident

While motorist John Buturia, 51, of Stratford, who was driving a 2008 Chevrolet SUV, was waiting for traffic on Berkshire Road, near Toddy Hill Road, at about 8:43 am on December 20, the Chevrolet was struck from behind by motorist David Santaniello, 36, of Danbury, who was driving a 2004 Ford pickup truck, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said Santaniello received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and also concerning a vehicle registration violation.

Toyota Vs Honda

Motorist John Lujanac, 47, of 68 Walnut Tree Hill Road was driving a 2006 Honda station wagon eastward on Church Hill, west of its intersection with Walnut Tree Hill Road, at about 8:30 pm on December 20, and then stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Honda was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Christopher Winn, 17, of 3 Horseshoe Ridge Road, who was driving a 1994 Toyota sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Winn a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Chevrolet

Motorist John Minalgo, 54, of 30 Scudder Road was driving a 2002 Chevrolet station wagon westward near 85 Sugar Street, about 9 pm on December 19, after which a deer entered the street, resulting in a collision. Minalgo was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Main Street

Police report that motorist Tatiana Ortiz, 23, of Stratford was observed traveling fast on Main Street about 11:30 pm December 14, so they stopped her to investigate.

Police charged Ortiz with traveling too fast and with driving under suspension. Police released her on a written promise to appear in court to answer the charges.

Acura TL

Police report that sometime between 8 am and 4 pm on December 15, some motorist struck and damaged a parked silver Acura TL sedan that was parked in the southern parking lot at Head O’  Meadow School at 94 Boggs Hill Road. The offending motorist left the scene of the collision without reporting the accident, which damaged the Acura’s rear passenger side. Police ask any witnesses to the incident to contact Officer Liam Seabrook at the police station.

Hawleyville Incident

Police report that at about 7:30 pm on December 17, motorist Diane Villodas, 57, of Brookfield was driving a 2007 Honda station wagon northward on Hawleyville Road, near Barnabas Road, when a deer entered the street, resulting in a collision. Villodas was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

DUI Charge

Police report that while on patrol about 1:07 am on December 21, they spotted motorist Thomas Santella, 22, of 12 Yearling Lane driving a 1993 Ford pickup truck eastward on Mile Hill Road, after which the truck made a left turn onto Queen Street.

The truck, however, was then traveling northward in Queen Street’s southbound lane, police said.

After stopping Santella to investigate, police gave him field sobriety tests and then charged him with driving under the influence and with making an improper turn.

After processing, police released Santella on $300 bail for a January 11 court appearance.

Three-Vehicle Crash,   Evading Driver

Police report a three-vehicle accident in which the motorist who caused the collision left the scene of the crash, evading responsibility for the incident.

At about 10:43 am on December 20, a Newtown man who was driving a 1999 Toyota SUV northward on South Main Street and was approaching its intersection with Botsford Hill Road and Meadowbrook Road, slowed for a red traffic signal, after which the Toyota was struck from behind by a northbound white Nissan Altima or Maxima with Connecticut marker plates, police said.

Due to that impact, the Toyota was pushed forward, striking the rear end of a northbound 1999 Ford pickup truck driven by a Newington man, police said.

The Nissan driver then left the scene. There were no injuries.
