Soccer Teams Begin Campaign
Newtown High School's girls' soccer team will look to bounce back from a season in which the team did not qualify for the South-West Conference playoffs. “The SWC is as competitive as it’s ever been,” NHS Coach Marc Kenney says. It all gets started with the regular-season opener when New Fairfield visits Treadwell Park for a 3:45 pm visit on Friday, September 11.
Newtown's boys' booters, meanwhile, are looking to get back into the SWC playoffs. If the season shakes out as expected, the offense will be as balanced as the team’s roster, meaning scoring will come from numerous sources. Coach Brian Neumeyer notes that the Nighthawks won’t hang their hat on one or two go-to players, and that he has a good group of juniors and seniors who should help provide success this year. The season opener is Friday, September 11, when Newtown travels to New Fairfield for a 6 pm battle.
