NYFS To Host 5th Annual Safety Town; Three Weeklong Sessions This Summer
For the fifth year, Newtown Youth & Family Services, Inc, will be offering a weeklong program in July and August for children entering kindergarten called Safety Town.
Sponsored locally by Newtown Prevention Council, AAA Southern New England, and Women Involved in Newtown, Safety Town is a national program that was developed in 1964 to teach young children important information on traffic safety, fire safety, water safety, bus safety, bicycle safety, awareness of medicine and poison, and awareness of strangers.
All safety topics will be taught in collaboration with local community and health agencies. Last year this program served 67 kids from the greater Newtown area.
Three sessions will be offered - July 17-21, July 24-28, and July 31-August 4 - with sessions meeting Monday through Friday from 9 am until noon.
Cost is $80 per child, which includes a snack, and financial assistance is available.
Safety Town will be held outside at Newtown Youth & Family Services, 15 Berkshire Road in Sandy Hook.
