To the Editor:

At last week’s Borough budget meeting, we witnessed a budget and taxing explanation worthy of a three card Monte dealer in Times Square! Although the general fund surplus of nearly $700,000 was nowhere to be found on the balance sheet provided to the voters attending the meeting, we did hear a convoluted explanation on how it was going to be used for legal fees, sidewalks, not legal fees and not sidewalks. Although the new Warden of the Borough promised transparency, this was a dog and pony show, not a serious explanation of where our tax dollars are going.

The taxpayers should petition the town of Newtown to strip the Borough board of their power of double taxation and bring the Borough under the protective wing of the municipality of Newtown.
