Newtown High School's field hockey team carried a six-game winning streak into the South-West Conference tournament opener on Thursday, October 25. The third-seeded Nighthawks are scheduled to host No. 6 Bethel, one of just two teams to defeat them this campaign, in the quarterfinals; game time is at 6 pm. The semis are set for Monday, October 29, with the finals on Thursday, November 1.

The Hawks got hat-tricks from Kat Trammel and Katie Goyda in two of three wins this past week.

Newtown doubled up visiting Nonnewaug 6-3 on Senior Night, October 17. Trammel scored three times, and Katie Goyda, Ali Kelleher, and Casey McLean scored. Aniko Walsh, Kelleher, and Libby Poseno had assists.

In a 2-1 win over host Weston the next night, Kelleher and Goyda scored.

Newtown visited Masuk of Monroe on October 22 and came away with a 3-1 victory. Goyda had all three cage-finders, and Piper Coleman assisted one of the tallies.

Bethel defeated Newtown 2-1 on October 1. The only other team to defeat the Nighthawks is Pomperaug of Southbury (2-0 on October 4), the top seed in the bracket. The No. 2 team is Immaculate of Danbury, which Newtown edged 2-1 in overtime on October 14.

Kat Trammel scored a hat-trick in Newtown's win over Nonnewaug.
Katie Goyda had three goals against Masuk.
