The Sandy Hook-based LOF Adaptive Skiers invites the community to participate in a one-of-kind waterski event to benefit people with disabilities. Dam Buster, an 11- and 22-mile Waterski-A-Thon, runs from just below Shepaug Dam to just above Stevenson Dam.

The event is Saturday, September 12, on Lake Zoar from 9 am to noon.

“There has never been a waterski endurance fundraising event in the country and we’re thrilled to be the first to host one,” said Joel Zeisler, executive director for LOF Adaptive Skiers. “Dam Buster will not only test the skills and endurance of the waterskiers, but will also give them the opportunity to meet other skiers from the region. This event is open to able-bodied skiers as well as persons with disabilities.”

The event will take place at the LOF Adaptive Skiers’ site on Lake Zoar, 90 Housatonic Drive in Sandy Hook. Skiers are asked to arrive by 8:45 am. Advanced registration is required and waterskiers need to bring a large pair of skis with comfortable bindings; boats, masterline handles, and tow lines will be supplied. Wakeboarders and slalom skiers are also welcome.

Skiers choose the donation they wish to make: $25, $35, $50, or $75. Registration includes a commemorative T-shirt, food and refreshments. Participants must be 12 years of age or older. All proceeds will benefit LOF’s adaptive watersports programs. Rain date is Sunday, September 13.

To register, or for more information, visit LOFadaptiveskiers.org or call 203-426-0666.

For the last 22 years, LOF Adaptive Skiers has been breaking down barriers for people with disabilities to participate in outdoor sports and recreation activities. Located on Lake Zoar, LOF Adaptive Skiers is a nonprofit organization serving 600 children, adults, and veterans with disabilities annually. Its adaptive water and snow ski programs provide challenging and meaningful outdoor activities that build physical fitness, greater independence, confidence, and lasting friendships.

LOF Adaptive Skiers runs one of the largest and safest adaptive water sports programs in the country. In addition to waterskiing, wakeboarding, tubing and kayaking, LOF Adaptive Skiers offers beginner level snow ski and snowboard instruction during the winter months. For more information, contact LOF Founder Joel Zeisler at 203-426-0666.

Charity Car Show

The ski group benefited recently from the 4th Annual Charity Car Show on Sunday, August 23, hosted by Candlewood East Marina. The event featured classic cars, domestic and imports, raffles, entertainment, and a chance to learn more about LOF Adaptive Skiers.

“We’re very grateful to the community for coming out to show their support and to Candlewood East Marina for hosting this event for us for the fourth year in a row,” said Mr Zeisler. “We could not have asked for a better turnout and all funds from the Car Show will go to support our adaptive water and snow ski programs.”

A recent Charity Car Show hosted by Candlewood East Marina on August 23 raised money to support the LOF Adaptive Skiers, a Sandy Hook-based nonprofit organization serving children, adults, and veterans with disabilities. Their adaptive water and snow ski programs provide outdoor activities that build physical fitness, greater independence, confidence and lasting friendships.
LOF Adaptive Skiers is inviting all waterskiers and wakeboarders, whether able-bodied or with disabilities, to participate in the first waterski endurance fundraising event in the country.
