After being closed for the summer months for “revamping, reorganizing, and cleaning,” said VNA member Joan Reynolds, the VNA Thrift Shop will reopen for a new season on Saturday, September 12.

“We have been cleaning everything up, as well as bringing in new merchandise,” Mrs Reynolds said September 4. She and fellow VNA members Mae Schmidle and Anna Wiedemann were at the shop, located on the lower level of Edmond Town Hall, but with its own entrance, to see what needed to be done in the week before the shop would reopen.

Recent merchandise donated by local residents and businesses, as well as from a few estates, means the VNA members who spend time at the store had new items to catalog and put on view. Among the items spotted during the visit last week was a cute black quilted coat by Calvin Klein, coupled on a hanger with a larger lime green purse by Merona, its original tag still hanging from one of its straps.

Mrs Schmidle pointed out that there is “lots of exciting merchandise, in a full array of fall colors.”

Additional purses, jackets, and lightweight vests were seen nearby. On the back of one door a collection of women’s clothing were still under dry cleaner’s bags, waiting to be uncovered and put out for customers to find.

The VNA Shop accepts and then resells new and gently used clothing, accessories, housewares, games, collectibles, and more. A recent donation of holiday decorations will be used for a special sale in upcoming months.

“We will have a holiday sale because we received nice decorations from an estate sale,” Mrs Reynolds mentioned.

Proceeds from the shop — combined with donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations — are used by the local Visiting Nurses Association to provide flu shot clinics, blood pressure screenings, and preschool eye screenings, among other programs.

The VNA Thrift Shop is open Saturdays from 9 am until noon, and Wednesdays from noon to 3 pm.
