This Was A Farming Town

To the Editor:

I was very happy to see the Sandy Hook Organic Farmers’ Market at Lexington Gardens last week. I stopped and was so excited to know these vendors would be here every Tuesday. They were very friendly people and had a lot of great things to offer.

I was soon disappointed to learn the borough will not allow them to continue. I called the land use office to be told farmer’s markets are only allowed in Sandy Hook. Also, Lexington Gardens is not a multiuse business. That is the law.

Come on borough government, what is the harm? And if there are laws against farmers’ markets, they need to be changed. I think the founding fathers of Newtown would agree — carnivals but not farmers? Lexington Gardens has art shows, bake sales, dog rescue, wine tasting, and much more — all good. What about the farmers?
