We will then be closed Thursday and Friday, November 25-26, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

We will reopen on Saturday, November 27, at 9:30 am, resuming regular hours.

Now On View

*When Fall Comes to New England: Tom Kretsch, who grew up in Newtown and graduated from high school too many years ago to count, enjoyed a successful career as a teacher in the Norwalk Public Schools for 36 years.

His passion for photography has evolved over the years and he has exhibited his work in art shows throughout New England. “When Fall Comes to New England” is a collection of Tom’s photos, all with an autumnal theme, that have been put on view in the lower community room. They will remain on view until December 5.

His business name Peaceful Places (www.PeacefulPlacesPhoto.com) speaks volumes as to the focus of his work; peaceful and soothing images that take you to places where you might like to spend some time alone or with good friends. Mostly self-taught, Tom studied at the Maine School of Photography and learned much from the great masters of photography about color, shape, form and most importantly light.

*First and Second Floor Display Cases: Cross-stitch samplers made by library staff and Newtown residents are on view this month.

*The library is selling Book Lover’s and Wine Lover’s Chocolate in a variety of flavors for $6 a box.

Programs For Adults

*Book Groups: The Non-Fiction Book Group will meet on Tuesday, December 7, at 1 pm, to discuss Tracey Kidder’s The Strength in What Remains; and The Daytime Book Group will discuss The Help by Katherine Stockett on Tuesday, December 14, at 1 pm.

*Author Talk and Book Signing: Join us on Tuesday, November 30, at 7 pm, for a talk with Cathryn Prince, author of A Professor, A President and a Meteor.

This is a fascinating vignette of Federal Period America when science on this continent was still in its infancy, but was just beginning to make its mark. When a firey meteor crash in 1807 lit up the dark early-morning sky in Weston, Connecticut, it did more than startle a few farmers in the sleepy village. It sparked the curiosity of Benjamin Stillman, whose rigorous investigation of the incident started a chain of events that eventually brought the once-low standing of American science to sudden international prominence.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the time of the talk and refreshments will be served. Registration is not needed.

C.H. Booth Library is at 25 Main Street in Newtown. Call 203-426-4533 or visit CHBoothLibrary.org to register for any of the above listings, and for information on additional programs and offerings.
