Newtown High School student artwork has been chosen for two recent art shows - the Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards show, which was on view at the Hartford Art School's Silpe Gallery until February 2, and the Teen Vision, Connecticut's 2018 High School Art Exhibition, which is on view at Sacred Heart University's Art & Design Gallery, 5151 Park Avenue in Fairfield, until February 11.

For Teen Visions, student Teresa Forlenzo earned first place with "Self-Portrait" in pen and ink; Charlie Condon earned second place for her "Cuddle Kitten" graphite piece; Paige Galanis earned second place for her "Octopus's Garden" pen, ink, and pastel piece; and Noel Carbone earned second place for her untitled watercolor. Other students with artwork in the Teen Vision show are Abigayle Tainter-Gilbert, Moira McKinley, Olivia Cavallero, Bethany Zajac, Laura Carson, and Katie Sailer.

The Teen Vision show is sponsored by Jerry's Artarama of Norwalk. The show is open daily from 9 am until 5 pm, according to NHS art teacher Carol Pelligra.

According to Ms Pelligra, for the Connecticut Scholastic Art Awards student Jenna Visca earned a Gold Key for her "Hiding in Plain Sight" graphite pieces; Rachel Phillips earned a Silver Key for her "Jacob" graphite piece; and Alix Lewis earned honorable mention for her "Wired" ceramics work.

According to a description for the Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards, it is an affiliate of The Alliance For Young Artists & Writers. The program recognizes the work of talented young artists in seventh to twelfth grade. Student artwork is juried by professional artists and university art faculty and is selected on merit for inclusion in the statewide art exhibition held at the Hartford Art School.
