State police said they received a call from officials at Garner Correctional Institution, the state’s high security prison at 50 Nunnawauk Road, about 12:13 pm on August 28, reporting a possible narcotics incident there.

State police went to the prison to investigate, and after conducting a search, they found a small glassine bag that contained a white powdery substance. That bag had been hidden inside a prisoner’s shoe.

They seized the substance and will submit it for chemical testing to determine if it is an illegal drug. If it is an illicit drug, the incident could result in an arrest.
