To the Editor:

We have all heard of Treadwell Park, named for our First Selectman Timothy B. Treadwell, who died tragically in a house fire in February, 1972.

Tim had three sons, and the oldest, Mead Treadwell, is Lieutenant Governor of Alaska.  He came to the “Great Newtown Reunion,” having attended Sandy Hook Elementary School and the middle school before graduating from Hotchkiss School in 1974, and graduating from Yale in 1978. He gave the keynote address at the [Great Newtown Reunion], introduced by First Selectman Pat Llodra. Unfortunately for your readers this happened in between the times your reporters were present, so they missed it.

Mead is running for United States Senator from Alaska in next years Republican primary, and if successful, in the general election.  You can find his web site online, www.treadwellalaska2014.com.  Even more information is available on Wikipedia, “Wikipedia.org/wiki/Mead_Treadwell”.  Or, it is just as easy to Google “Mead Treadwell” and look for these sites.  The Wikipedia entry has links to 31 sub-articles.

But back to the Great Newtown Reunion.  If the reader will go to The Bee online [NewtownBee.com] and find the article “A Nostalgic Crowd Gathers To Celebrate The Great Newtown Reunion,” you will find a slideshow.   Mead is in the picture which comes up at 1:56 of 8:13, and in the photo at 5:34 of 8:13.  Of course I am going to suggest going to the latter photo because I am in it also!

I think it is pretty exciting having a Newtowner running for US Senate, even if it is from another state.

Sincerely,

Robert H. Hall
