Boys 8th
Newtown 62, Bridgeport 73 â Capitalizing on early turnovers by the home team, Bridgeport raced out to a 16 point lead before Newtown settled into the rhythm of the game. Starting the second quarter trailing by 13, Newtown came to life in the period sparked by aggressive play on the boards by David Lucia and Ryan Crowell. Lucia, Kyle Wilcox, and John Kerins combined for 16 first-half points. Building on the momentum of the second quarter, Newtown outplayed Bridgeport in the second half; Newtown put up 41 points with Brendan DeAngelis scoring 15 of his 17 points in the final two periods. Lucia led all scorers with 20 points and all eight Newtown players contributed offensively.

Ridgefield 43, Newtown 40 â The 8th grade girls travel team lost to Ridgefield despite a strong shooting effort from Riley Wurtz and Jessica Jowdy with 15 points and 9 points, respectively. Alyssa Finkenstadt added 5 points; Jessica Lynch 4 points, and Nora Murphy, Stephanie Clavette, and Meghan Condon had 2 points apiece.
Newtown 36, Stamford 35 â Newtown beat Stamford behind a great overall defensive effort lead by Arianna Papaj, Jessica Lynch, Abbey Doski, and Nora Murphy. The game was won on a last second jumper in the lane by Papaj (4 points) whose former hometown is Stamford. Jessica Jowdy was a monster on the boards hauling down 11 rebounds and adding 8 points. Riley Wurtz lead the offensive attack with 13 points on three 3-pointers. Alyssa Finkenstadt, Meghan Condon, and Kendall Svanda rounded out the scoring with 6, 3, and 2 points, respectively.
Norwalk 43, Newtown 38 â Newtown lost on the road to Norwalk despite 4 three-pointers from Riley Wurtz (13 points). Arianna Papaj played solid at the point contributing 8 points and 5 assists. Jessica Lynch, Kendall Svanda, and Alyssa Finkenstadt added 6, 5, and 4 points, respectively.
Newtown 54, Danbury 45 â Newtown beat Danbury at home behind strong play on both sides of the ball by Arianna Papaj. Arianna lead all scorers with 22 points on 11 for 19 shooting from the floor. She also led a balance defensive attack, which held Danbury to just 5 points in the second quarter. Riley Wurtz, Alyssa Finkenstadt, Jessica Jowdy, and Jessica Lynch balanced out the scoring with 8, 7, 7, and 6 points, respectively.
Boys 6th
Bridgeport Trumbull Gardens 47, Newtown 39 â Mike Davis had 19 points and 7 rebounds in a tough league loss for the locals. Jonah Muniz had 3 assists and Matt Mossbarger had 5 steals.
Newtown 53, Fairfield Wolves 33 â Mike Davis had 17 points and Bubba Le Blanc chipped in 8 to lead Newtown. Matt Hoyt and Nick Cagganello also each tallied 6 points while Conner Gallagher had 2 nice assists from the point guard position. Jonah Muniz and Matt White led a strong effort on the boards with 8 and 6 rebounds, respectively, while Jim Parker anchored a strong team defensive effort (to go along with his 7 rebounds).
Newtown 56, Monroe 28 â Mike Davis had 10 points and Bubba Le Blanc had 9 in a league win for Newtown. Matt Hoyt and Logan Puleri also each had 8 points. Matt White had 4 assists, Logan Puleri had 3 steals, and Nick Cagganello had 6 rebounds to lead Newtown. During this win, every single player scored and had at least one assist, which is a good sign of unselfish play on the part of the entire team.

Thunderbolts 42, Purple People Eaters 39 â Ashley Kuligowski dropped in 15 points and Katie Schmidt contributed 13 points for the Thunderbolts. Betsy Vendel drove in 18 points for the Purple People Eaters. Kaley Kruger and the team played an awesome game.
Orange Zingers 32, Red Hot Chilies 26 â Lauren Picerno popped in 8 points. Good defense by Natalie Villa and Keegan Frobey of the Orange Zingers. The Red Hot Chilies played well both offensively and defensively.

Maulers 55, Nighthawks 43 â Justin Devillis popped in 14 points and Mac Murlock contributed another 10 for the Maulers. Kory Kling had 3 assists, Christian Mather 8 steals, and Josh Villa grabbed 10 rebounds. The Nighthawksâ Mike Scharfenberg dropped in 10 points and Pat Sullivan added 9. John Hull, Kaleb Rowe, and Ryan Palmer played great defense.
Huskies 52, Wildcats 37 â Reid Schmidt canned 14 points and Jack McManus added 9 points for the Huskies. Jeff Hoffman and Dom Fedak played well defensively. Mario Pisaghelli was high scorer with 21 points and Jamie McDonald added 6. Chris Otero had 3 steals and Shaun Mangold grabbed 8 rebounds for the Wildcats.
Bears 45, Regulators 43 â Kevin Phillips popped in 23 points and Keenan Mulligan 6 points. Tim Eams with 4 assists, Kyle Harrington with 6 steals, and Mike Greenwood with 8 rebounds played a great defensive game for the Bears. The Regulatorsâ Mike Lord popped in 14 points and Jack Champagne, 9 points. Tyler Gibney with 5 assists, Dean Deamers with 4 steals, and James Mooney with 7 rebounds played well defensively.
Statesmen 45, Nets 35 â Chris Erikson dropped in 13 points with 2 assists from Will Fletcher. Peter Kerns and Will Fletcher each had 10 points. Harry Snellback was strong on defense, as was Brian Kruger with 5 steals and Peter Kerns with 11 rebounds for the Statesmen. Austin Bonadio tapped in 18 points and 3 steals for the Nets. Defensively strong were Mike Mossberger with 4 assists, Pat Thornberg with 7 rebounds, and Austin Puleri had 6 rebounds. Nick Madden had 5 blocks
Sonics 57, Nets 35 â Offensive leader Sean Ross popped in 28 points. All around good team defense with Kevin Shpunt and Andrew Ryan leading the way for the Sonics. Mason West led with 10 points, Mike Mossbarger added 8 points, and Phil Reynolds was assist leader. Leading the team defensively were Pat Thornberg with 7 steals, Brendan Callery, 7 rebounds, and Austin Bonadio had 5 rebounds.
Avalanche 34, Vipers 30 â Sean Burson dropped in 15 points and Michael Serf contributed 8 points for Avalanche. Ben Stoller had 4 assists, Eric Sutton had 13 rebounds and 6 steals, Jimmy Russo 14 rebounds; tough zone defense and strong team rebounding. The Vipersâ Richard Sandler sank 10 points. Evan Swan and James Pearson led the team defensively. High energy effort.
Tar Heels 53, Nuggets 35 â Pat Riccardi scored 14 points and Evan Noonan scored 10 points. Peter Overdorf played well defensively for the Tar Heels. Mike Lobosco and Alex Arend combined for 16 points for the Nuggets. Sean Decker had 6 rebounds and 3 blocks. Will Carr played well defensively
Pride 43, Gunners 39 â Collin Cooper led the Pride with 19 points and Wyatt Dupuy with 7 assists. Chad Magoulas with 3 steals and Charlie Loomis with 5 rebounds led the team defensively. Gunnersâ Dunnigan dropped in 13 points and Sayegh added 8. Playing well defensively were Helgren with 4 steals and Sayegh with 5 rebounds.
Junior Girls
Da Bears 30, Mercury 27 â Molly Mahoney and Lindsay Jossick contributed 8 points each for Da Bears. Alexa Powell popped in 8 points and Ashley Cirone dropped in 7 points for Mercury. Lauren Meyer and Katherine Lotrecciano anchored the âD.â
Huskies 37, Hawks 25 â Lexi Black popped in 10 points and Liz Eiseman 9. Katie McManus played great defense, holding their opponentâs high scorer to only 8. Michaela Beaudry grabbed the rebounds for the Huskies. Lauren Sasna led the Hawks with 9 points and Keri Chernoff hit a 3-pointer and finished with 7, while Bianca Solano added to the offense with 4 assists. Olivia Phenix played awesome defense.
The Suns 37, Knicks 30 â Jade Mather drove in 15 points, Faaria Ansari contributed 9 points. Maddy Christie with 5 rebounds and Allison Monaco with 4 steals played well defensively. Kelly Gaston popped in 14 points for the Knicks, while Rachel Divanno, with 6 steals and 4 rebounds, led the team defensively.
Rebels 49, Liberty 25 â Kiersten Lynch had 12 points and Kaitlyn VosWinkel added another 10 points. The girls could not miss. Caitlyn Dowling and Erika Kroesen played well defensively for the Rebels. Emma Herring dropped in 10 points and Coleen Cosgrove canned 8 for the Rebels. Amanda Stanton played aggressive defense. Erin Bell did a good job rebounding.
Intermediate Boys (6th)
Celtics 23, Free Agents 19 â Ryan Errico led the Celtics with 6 points, Mitchell Stewart contributed with 5 assists, and Ben Payne, the rebound leader also with 4 steals. Great game by all. Playing a good game offensively and defensively were Adsitt with 6 points, Wurtz with 4 assists, Rosenberger with 3 steals, and Peterson with 9 rebounds. Strong defensive game for Marcinek and Peterson.
Huskies 45, Runninâ Rebels 27 â Patrick Afriyie and Tommy Gleason led the way for the Huskies, dumping in 10 points apiece. Angel Santos came up big with 11 assists, while Greg LaRussa led the defensive effort for the Huskies. For the Runninâ Rebels, Grant Ricketts led all scorers with 15 points. Dominic Scarangella played his heart out on defense leading the Rebels with rebounds, along with Alex Lapinski and Austin Raftery, who led with steals.
Mavericks 44, And One 29 â The Mavericks and And One were neck and neck through three quarters, then the Mavericks pulled away in the fourth with pressure defense and an 18-4 run to notch their first win of the campaign. Robert Linden led the Mavericks with 15 points, while Wesley Morlock added 6 assists. Otto Kerler was huge on the boards with 12 rebounds, and Adam Harrison came up big with 6 steals. The Mavericks had their best game of the year with crisp passing and rebounding. And One was led by Nathan Kalra who had 8 points and 12 rebounds and played tough underneath the boards. Jordan Sock and Nick Swenson had strong games, contributing 6 points apiece.
Hawks 31, And One 22 â Virgil Procaccini (9 points) and Matt Lindell (4 assists) led the Hawks to the win. Nick Norberg led the Hawks with 9 rebounds, while Doug Miller was a defensive standout. Alex Romeo and Sean Reilly had strong floor games. Nathan Kalra led And One with 8 points, while Mitchell Girgasky and Brian Arnold had strong floor games and contributed 4 points each.
Intermediate Boys (5th)
Nighthawks 26, Suns 15 â Chris Carroll dropped in 9 points. Leading the defense were Ty Runkle, Jim Leidlein, and Dan Spillane for the Nighthawks. Tom Flores drove in 8 points and Tim Kelly added 4 points. Greg Ladestro with 3 steals and Chris George with 4 rebounds played a good game defensively.
Bulldogs 30, Wildcats 28 â The Bulldogs played well offensively and defensively with Jason Ferrari scoring 9 points and 5 rebounds, Joey Carrino had 2 steals and 5 rebounds, Adam Isreal had 4 rebounds and 6 points. Carl Whippie provided an offensive boost with a key basket. Wildcatsâ Patrick Berger drove in 16 points, Robbie Schreiber had 3 steals, Baxter Hankin had 3 rebounds, and Matt Hess and Andy DeWolfe played a great game on both ends of the floor. Deegan Beauchemin provided a defensive boost.
The Rockets 31, Wildcats 15 â James Burdette and Bobby Archiere combined for 22 points to power the Rockets to victory. Brennan OâSullivan pulled down 8 rebounds and Wiley Zahansky had 5 assists. Peter Manfredonia popped in 5 points and Andy Dewolfe added 2 points. Dewolfe hit a key basket. Patrick Berger with 3 assists, Matt Hess with 5 rebounds, Luke Rustici and Robby Schreiber led the Wildcats on defense.
Knicks 39, Scorpions 19 â Bryce Decker scoring 10 points, Keaton McCleary with 6 assists, Tommy Shaker with 6 steals, and Harry Dupuy with 12 rebounds led the way for the Knicks in a great team effort. Nick Cirone popped in 10 points and Brian Raab added 9 points. David Corsi (3 assists), Alex Clark (10 steals), Colton Moroney (10 rebounds) played a great game defensively. Although playing a strong offensive game, the shots were just not going in.
Twisters 39, Heat 28 â Bob Lydon and Jaret Develis combined for 18 points. Andrew Pfiffer was a defensive machine. Playing great defense for the Twisters were Andrew Cragin (3 assists), Liam Decker (2 steals), and Alex Klang (4 rebounds). Heatâs Albert Dean hit 8 points and Kaj Djonne added 4 points. Eight different Heat players scored. Rory Philips with 3 steals and Connor LeMay with 8 rebounds were aggressive defensively.

Dragons 47, Bulldogs 29 â Outstanding shooting by Cassie Ekstrom with 28 points, while Amelia Muratori had 5 assists and Bethany Dubois grabbed 10 rebounds for the Dragons. The Bulldogsâ Megan Logan popped in 12 points. Outstanding play by Jessica Amante, Eliza Eggleston, and Emma Lloyd.
Wolves 25, Bulldogs 17 â Awesome playing by Sienna Cicarelli with 19 points, while defensively Taylor Zingaro with 6 steals, Emily Turco with 8 rebounds played well. Strong offense by Marybeth Semosky and strong defense by Anita Lukkaranayagam for the Wolves. Megan Logan popped in 8 points. Outstanding play by Catherine Neaves and Eliza Eggleston was 5 for 8 from the line.
Ghostbusters 25, Nighthawks 18 â DeAnna dropped in 8 points The Ghostbusters executed outstanding teamwork. Paige Fedorchek, Sarah Craig, Nokomis Leaman-Logsdon stood out defensively. Valentina Pena popped in 8 points for the Nighthawks. Shaina Stump and Ashley Marks worked the floor well defensively. Well played by whole team.
Court Jesters 25, Bluefish 15 â Megan Brophy canned 9 points for Court Jesters, while defensively Kelly OâConnell with 8 rebounds and Rachel McGuire played a great game. Micoela Nowacki played well offensively with 5 points. Emily Maner with good effort and hustle.
