Thousands Of Coins For The Cure
Thousands Of Coins For The Cure
To the Editor:
The Coins For The Cure â To Wipe Out Leukemiaâs annual fund drive topped out at $5,500! The Kids Care Club at Hawley School began this yearâs appeal. They were joined students from St Rose School, Newtown Middle School, High School Youth Advisory Board, Reed School, Sandy Hook, Middle Gate, Head of Meadow schools and the Middle School Youth Advisory Board as well as the Middle School Rotary Sponsored Club. Also, thanks to Vice La Francesca who collected cans and donated the $50.
Thanks to the following businesses in Newtown, Sandy Hook, and Bethel that displayed blue cans for donations:
Stop & Save Liquors, Andreaâs Bakery, Yankee Liquor, Magic Garden, Sandy Hook Diner, The Villa, 100 Church Hill Restaurant, Sandy Hook Deli, PJâs Laundromat, Sandy Hook Liquor, Hair in the Hook, Toy Tree, Berkshire Motors, Dodgingtown Market, Drug Center, Newtown Cleaners, Mobil Gas Stop, Berkshire Motors, Misty Vale Diner, Main Street South Deli, Steveâs Deli, Newtown Deli & Catering, Carminuccioâs, Holcombâs Friendly Gas Stop, Klickers Hair Styling, Taunton Liquors, UK Gourmet, Bagelman, Newtown Congregational Co-op Nursery School, Karenâs Fitness, Nutmeg Cleaners, Petal Pushers, Georgeâs Pizza, Stitch in Time, and Molten Java.
Many thanks to all the people who read the articles in the papers and sent donations. The Middle School students wrote letters to local businesses. Thanks to local donors: Kesco Electric, Newtown Insurance Agency, Jeff Nickse of NWM Insurance, Rushefski Consulting, and Bethel Market. We would still be rolling coins if it wasnât for Union Savings Bank, Newtown and Commerce Park branches. Their generous help was once again a large contributing force in our success. Our original total last week was $5,303.72! But, now it is $5,500!
We are now in the process of planning another Newtown first, The Light the Night Walk will be held in Newtown this fall. This is the first time a walk will be held in Northern Fairfield County. We will be looking for sponsors and walkers. Together we can make a difference.
Yes, it still is nicer in Newtown!
Sincerely,
Ginny Chion
