Newtown High School's softball team came from behind to defeat West Haven in the Class LL state tournament's second round, winning 6-4 at home, on June 1.

The fourth-seeded Nighthawks trailed No. 13 West Haven 4-3 but rallied behind Katie Laaksonen's bases-clearing triple in the sixth inning.

With the win, the Nighthawks move on to face No. 5 Norwich Free Academy in the quarterfinals on Thursday, June 2. The game is scheduled to take place at Newtown High, with the first pitch at 4 pm.
