A tough week saw the Newtown Babe Ruth Softball 10-year-old travel team drop one decision to Prospect and two to the Connecticut Hornets.
In an 11-5 loss to Prospect, Jackie Kissack went 3-for-3 with a single, double and triple. Taylor Johnson singled twice and doubled while Natalie Dunn singled twice. Brittany Soucar and Kendall Svanda each chipped in with hits.
In a 23-8 loss to the Hornets, Johnson, Kissack and Svanda continued with their hot hitting with two hits apiece. Svanda knocked in three runs. Rachel Camejo contributed two hits and two runs scored and Emma Herring had a single, double and two RBIs. Erin Begg also had a hit and an RBI.
In a 10-4 loss to the Hornets, the Hawks had a 3-1 lead heading into the fourth inning when the Hornets took charge. Johnson sparked the locals with a homer while Colleen Cunningham pitched well, recording 15 strikeouts. Kissack, Camejo, Cunningham and Herring had singles as Megan Gibbons drew two walks and scored a run to help in the offensive effort. Dunn made two fly ball catches to spark the defense.
