Stray Kats Theatre Company Announces 2012-13 Season
The Stray Kats Theatre Company, a not-for-profit theatre company located at historic Edmond Town Hallâs Alexandria Room in Newtown, announces its schedule for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
Newtownâs only professional theatre company will open with Itâs A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play by Joe Landry, in which five actors recreate the entire cast of the classic Frank Capra film based on Philip Van Doren Sternâs 1939 short story, The Greatest Gift. The performance is one night only: Saturday, November 3.
The season continues in January with SKTCâs first full production, the world premiere of Fred Stroppelâs Small World, a hilarious imagining of meetings between two giants of the entertainment world, Walt Disney and Igor Stravinsky, centered on the creation of Fantasia, the groundbreaking animated film that combined the Disney genius with classical music.
Performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons, January 11-27.
February 2-3 will bring the Pulitzer Prize-winning A Delicate Balance by Edward Albee, in which the uneasy existence of upper-middle-class suburbanites is disrupted by the sudden appearance of lifelong family friends and a daughter who cannot seem to stay married. This staged reading continues the SKTC tradition of presenting contemporary classics of the American stage.
March brings the tumultuous journey of two Little League coaches through an entire season, from their first tentative meeting to the climactic championship game in Richard Dresserâs Rounding Third. âThis play,â according to The San Jose Repertory Theatre, âreflects the passions, the joy and the pain that fills the heart of any person who has ever loved a child who was competing for anything, from sports to spelling bees to talent shows.â Performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons, March 1-17.
On April 28, the company will present as its final offering of the season a reading of Seven, a play written by seven award-winning playwrights (Paula Cizmar, Catherine Filloux, Gail Kriegel, Carol K. Mack, Ruth Margraff, Anna Deavere Smith and Susan Yankowitz) based on interviews with seven heroic women. Triumphant against physical and mental abuse, oppression, adversity, and threats to their lives, the seven stories will move your soul and offer a glimpse into the courage and sacrifice women leaders have made to improve the lives of others across the globe.
Stray Kats will be offering the very special event in honor of Womenâs History Month, in association with the Vital Voices Network. The performance will take place at 2 pm on Saturday, April 28.
Full season tickets are available for $125. Tickets for radio show presentations and staged readings are $25 in advance, or $30 at the door without reservation; full productions are $30 in advance; $35 at the door.
