Loved Family And Racing

Nicholas John “Nick” Haines, 25, of Bridgeport, died May 1, in his beloved race car that he built. He was born in Bridgeport, June 26, 1984, son of Robin Bernath and her husband, Gabor, of Newtown and Douglas Haines of Bridgeport.

He was proprietor of Mario’s Auto Sound and Security in Norwalk and was a founder of NH Swaps 13203 and participated in quarter-mile speed trials in New York and New Jersey.

Survivors in addition to his parents include one brother, Thomas Bernath of Newtown; three sisters, Daryle Adams of Sandy Hook, Ann Bernath of Newtown, and Jillian Goodfellow of Guilford; two beloved nieces; his devoted uncle; his maternal grandparents, John and Pauline DiBella of Stratford; and several other aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Jason and Patricia Haines.

A funeral service was scheduled for Thursday, May 6, at 6:30 pm, in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main Street, Stratford. Interment will be private. Calling hours  were scheduled for Thursday, May 6,  from 4 to 7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Nick Haines Memorial Fund.
