Duck Race Tickets Are On Sale

The Newtown Lions Club Duck Race ticket sales are underway.

Members were out past weekend selling tickets at various establishments around town. Lions Club members will continue selling tickets around town until May 17. Tickets will also be available on Race Day — Saturday, May 23.

Lions will have ticket tables set up Fridays through Sundays at Bagel Delight, 30 Church Hill Road; Bottle Shop Wine & Spirits, 5 Queen Street; Butcher’s Best, 125 South Main Street; Carminuccio’s Pizza, 76 South Main Street; Dodgingtown Market, 57 Dodgingtown Road; My Place Restaurant, 8 Queen Street; Newtown Deli & Catering, 79 South Main Street; Newtown General Store, 43 Main Street; Pizza Palace, 66 Church Hill Road; Salon Michele and Yankee Wine & Liquor, both within the shopping plaza at 6 Queen Street; and Stop & Shop and Franco’s Pizza, both within Sand Hill Plaza, 228 South Main Street.

Tickets can also be purchased at the following locations at any time: Bagel Delight, 30 Church Hill Road; Booth Library, 25 Main Street; Cork-n-Barrel, 266 South Main Street; Dodgingtown Liquor Store, 57 Dodgingtown Road; Hawleyville Wine & Liquor, 23 Barnabas Road; Joanne’s Fitness Studio, 316 South Main Street; Newtown Pharmacy, 20 Church Hill Road; Queen Street Cleaners, 6 Queen Street; Shear Image, 43 South Main Street; Superior Cleaners, 103 South Main Street; Tax Collector’s Office (Newtown Municipal Center), 3 Primrose Street; The Toy Tree, 14 Church Hill Road; World of Wine & Spirits, 71 South Main Street; Village Barber Shop and Yankee Discount Liquor, both within the shopping plaza at 6 Queen Street; and Your Healthy Pet, 224 South Main Street.

In Sandy Hook, tickets can be purchased at Berkshire Motors, 25 Berkshire Road; Fun Kuts, 111 Church Hill Road; PJ’s Laundromat, 110 Church Hill Road; Sandy Hook Deli & Catering, Sandy Hook Hair Co., and Sandy Hook Wine & Liquor, all within the building at 102 Church Hill Road; and Sandy Hook Diner, 98 Church Hill Road; and Village Perk Café, 3 Glen Road.

In addition, the Lions Club will have a booth set up, with Duck Race tickets available, during the 8th Annual Newtown Earth Day Festival, Saturday, May 2, at Newtown Middle School.

The 15th Annual Great Pootatuck Duck Race will be held on Saturday, May 23, from 10 am until 2:30 pm, in Sandy Hook Center. The race itself, where thousands of rubber ducks will be dropped into the Pootatuck River from the Church Hill Road bridge, will be at 2:30.

There are 20 prizes available this year, donated by businesses in Newtown and Sandy Hook, with this year’s top prize a $2,000 check for the ticket-holder whose duck crosses the finish line first. Additional top prizes include a weekend getaway ($400 gift card, $200 TicketMaster gift card), a three-month membership to Porco Karate Academy, and an X-box One system. 

Newtown Lions Club member Jerome Mayer was outside Stop & Shop in Sand Hill Plaza last weekend, selling some of the first Great Pootatuck Duck Race tickets of the season.
