Israel Fair May 22 In Southbury

Southbury — An Israel Fair featuring a wide variety of art and merchandise designed and made in Israel will be held Sunday, May 22, from noon to 5 pm at the Walzer Family Jewish Community Campus 444 Main Street North.

The Israel Fair is bringing about 20 artists, designers, and merchants to Southbury to exhibit and sell their creations. Showcased will be paintings, original jewelry, accessories, award winning photography, Judaica, objets d’art, skin care products made of Dead Sea minerals, artistic T-shirts, calligraphy, and items of particular interest to Christians as well as Jews. Israeli food, cooked on premises by a well-known Israeli restaurateur, will be available for a light lunch or a snack.

A feature attraction will be a lecture at 1 pm by the Rev Suzanne Wagner, of First Church, United Church of Christ, Fairfield, on the theme of “Perspectives: Christians and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.” Rev Wagner has worked closely with the Connecticut Anti-Defamation League since 1993 in diversity education and interfaith dialogue. Her presentation is designed to be of interest to people of all faiths and to deepen their understanding of some critical, complex, and confusing issues relating to the situation in the Middle East. The lecture will be followed by a question and answer period.

The Israel Fair is hosted by Congregation B’nai Israel of Southbury, which makes its home in the Jewish Community Campus. The fair receives co-sponsorship support from Jewish Communities of Western Connecticut (the Federation), and from the Anti-Defamation League of Connecticut, as well as from individual donors. Admission to the fair and lecture is free of charge. The Jewish Community Campus is located on Routes 6/67 less than one mile north of I-84 Exit 15. For further information call the B’nai Israel Office at 203-267-3394.
