Helen Dorothy (Hrivnak) Andrejczyk, 86, a resident of Monroe since 1959, and formerly of Newtown, beloved wife for 24 years of the late Edward Andrejczyk, died peacefully June 1 in Windsor. Born in her family’s farmhouse in Newtown on December 15, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Barbara Mary (Jacko) and Albert Joseph Hrivnak.

She was raised in Newtown, and graduated from Hawley High School with the Class of 1947. After graduation, she took a position with the Upton Tea Company for 50 cents per hour. She later worked for the Scrabble Company and then enrolled in a business school to become a certified comptometer. After her wedding, Mrs Andrejczyk worked with her husband and his brother at their grocery store on Route 25 in Newtown. Before her retirement, she worked for many years at Dual-Lite.

Mrs Andrejczyk was a true farmerette and loved working and living on a farm. She enjoyed gardening, caring for her cows, baking, cooking, raising her cacti, and painting landscape scenes. Most of all, she will be remembered as a very kind and loving person. Mrs Andrejczyk frequently looked for ways to help her family and friends, whether it was bringing vegetables to their home or helping them with their gardens. In her spare time, when she wasn’t on the farm, she enjoyed bowling, and was a member of several leagues over the years. While living in Newtown, she was a communicant of St Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church.

She leaves a sister, Evelyn King, and her husband Bob, of Windsor; three sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. A brother, Albert Joseph Hrivnak, Jr, predeceased Mrs Andrejczyk.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr Vincent Rella and his staff at Danbury Hospital for their expert care and concern over the last several years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 5, at 1:30 pm, at St Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Newtown. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Newtown. Her family will receive friends Friday, June 5, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm, prior to the Mass, at the church.

The family has requested that in memory of Mrs Andrejczyk’s love of farming that donations be made to the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Connecticut (CT NOFA), 126 Derby Avenue, Derby CT 06418.

Carmon Windsor Funeral Home has care of the arrangements. For online condolences visit, www.carmonfuneralhome.com.
