A Happy Halloween On Main Street
To the Editor:
On the behalf of the Borough and residents of Main Street, thank you to everyone who made the evening another great success. Main Street saw about 3,000-plus trick-or-treaters. (Main Street Halloween, the Labor Day Parade, Main Street itself, Ram Pasture and the annual Tree Lighting, our schools, our volunteer fire companies, Sandy Hook Center and its holiday events, Edmond Town Hall, the Cyrenius H. Booth Library, NYA, EverWonder Children's Museum are, among other town gems, repeated reasons why people move to and love Newtown.)
Residents did a remarkable job not only with candy distribution, but also in the theme and decoration categories. A special thank you for the widespread candy contributions from Head O' Meadow Elementary School's The School Community Team, Big Y and its customers, Newtown Parks & Recreation, Trinity Episcopal Church, and private contributors including Main Street neighbors that donated candy to the participating Halloween houses. (Thank you to those who I may have missed, as well.) And, a huge thank you to the Newtown Police Department for the cones, their patrol presence, and overall efforts that again made it safe and fun.
Tuesday's Halloween saw incredible themes and props expressing fantastic imagination and crafting. The vast majority of children were from Newtown, and some visiting friends from other towns shared in the event. A number of parents expressed interest in learning more about Newtown. Indeed, we are one Newtown and all together, now forward… Turkey Trot, Ram Pasture and Sandy Hook Tree lightings, and the Holiday Festival.
Thanks again.
Sincerely,
Jim Gaston
